Jeannette Berman is the Membership Chairperson and Website Administrator at B’nai Israel Reform Temple, where she is also a member of the Board of Trustees, Fundraising Committee and is the Temple Bulletin editor. Since joining B’nai Israel in 2001, she has converted to Judaism, learned to read Hebrew, and become Bat Mitzvah. Along with her husband Seth, she was remarried at the Temple in a Jewish ceremony as a demonstration at an interfaith event. In her professional life she is a Help Desk Associate for a private company in Hauppauge, New York.
Rabbi Dr. Steven A Moss has served B’nai Israel since 1972. His dedication, enthusiasm and community involvement have had a major influence on the growth and development of our congregation. Rabbi Moss is a community leader in the truest sense of the term. He ministers to the Jewish life cycle needs of the congregation and the surrounding community. He chairs the Suffolk County Human Rights Commission and the Anti-Bias Task Force in the battle against anti-Semitism and other bias crimes. He serves as chaplain to the Suffolk County Police Department and holds the rank of Deputy Chief, and at various hospitals, and skilled nursing/assisted living homes in the community. Rabbi Moss is also the Spiritual Care Consultant for Partners In Dignity, a program for the terminally ill and those with chronic/catastrophic illnesses funded by FEGS and UJA-Federation. He is a student of Kabbalah and meditation and has led workshops in these areas of Jewish life and study. He has had articles printed in the Journal of the Central Conference of American Rabbis. Rabbi Moss is past-president of the Suffolk Board of Rabbis and the Suffolk County Conference of Jewish Organizations. He is also the longest sitting member of the Islip Town Board of Ethics. Rabbi Moss was the recepient of the Maria and Joel Finkle “Rabbi of the Year 2007″ award from the New York Board of Rabbis. Rabbi Moss and his wife Judy, are an integral part of B’nai Israel and will continue to be so for years to come.
